I love being creative. It’s fun to see something go from nothing to wow. The problem is that I’m a linear thinker. I go with logic over design. So, when I have an idea to do something, I struggle to get from that nothing to wow. For example, I have some old wine bottles that I want to paint. I think I want them to be Star Wars-themed so they will look amazing in my office.
Right now, I have three identical bottles, so I’m thinking of making two look like my favorite droids and the third to be a play on light vs. dark. However, I love some other droids and characters just as much so I’m struggling to choose. The next problem I’m running into is that I don’t know how to translate these ideas onto the bottles. I run into this often, and it’s frustrating.
Luckily, in today's world, there are all kinds of inspiration to use. I often check out Pinterest for ideas, but I want this to be my art, not someone else’s. My brain is so linear that I find myself copying what someone else did. I quickly attempt to go in a different direction, but it’s hard to make that turn.
This leads to hesitation and a room full of un-started craft projects. When I finally start, the idea flows out of me, and the result isn’t horrible. Occasionally, I love what I create. Learning to “roll with it” is important and has helped me evolve over the years. Plus, paint can always be painted over to do something new if the ending isn’t desirable.
I’m hoping to start this craft project soon if I can nail down the things I want to design on the bottles. However, I could buy more wine bottles, and then I wouldn’t need to choose which designs to do.
