pumpkin carvings

There is a corn maze not far from where we live that the girls like to visit. Last year we didn’t make it because there was a lot going on, and this year both the girls asked to go. We tried to go the first half of October, but it was extremely rainy. This past Friday it was supposed to rain, but miraculously the rain held off just long enough that we could visit and tackle the maze. My husband and I didn’t go with them into the maze, but they had a blast running around and finding all the markers.

Instead, my husband and I went to the pumpkin patch and looked around. We found two really nice round pumpkins for the girls. I also found a little one that I thought the chickens would like. I grabbed a few little pumpkins as well, and we had to buy some apple cider to finish up our purchase. We got home pretty late so pumpkin carving was saved.

In the meantime, I asked the girls what they wanted to carve in their pumpkins. They both sent me an image of what they wanted and then it was finally time to get in and get dirty. The girls gutted their own pumpkins, and I was disappointed that they both needed gloves to do it. They didn’t want to get their hands gooey, but that was half of the fun of carving a pumpkin.

They both did basically all of it on their own. The youngest decided she wanted to do oogie boogie from The Nightmare Before Christmas, and the end result is pretty darn good. The youngest decided to paint her mini pumpkin as well with the three children that are seen with oogie boogie in the movie. The oldest wanted to do something from her favorite video game. Apparently, it’s the constellation from the character named Neuvillette and he is the water dragon. I am not super familiar with it, but it does look like a water dragon.

It's crazy how different it was carving pumpkins this year compared to the past. They always tried to be independent but this year they really were. They searched for their own template and did all the work themselves. The only help we needed to give was for the oldest who had a little snafoo during the process and cut the wrong part. However, you can’t even tell in the end.
