The way this story starts completely took me by surprise. I had no idea what was coming, and it honestly shook me, especially when I stopped to think about how Tori must have felt going through it. She’s such a genuinely sweet girl, and having to deal with something like that right out of the gate couldn’t have been easy.

At first, it felt like she brushed it off a little too quickly, but the more I read, the more I realized that was her coping mechanism. She survives by pushing forward, even when things hurt, and that made her feel very real.

Killian quite literally strolls into town with every intention of passing through, and it felt like pure kismet that he ends up renting from Tori. Their paths crossing the way they did just worked, and I loved watching how their connection slowly took shape.

I was completely pulled into this story from the start. The way everything twists together, the timing, the emotions, the relationships, was so well written and easy to get lost in. And while this is very much a Tori/Killian story, I was so excited when Cole and Teagan appeared. Cole’s protectiveness of Tori completely made me swoon, especially knowing it stemmed simply from her friendship with his wife. Those moments added such a warm, familiar layer to the story that I loved. I received this story as an ARC and I am leaving this honest review voluntarily.

Kissing her feels like being pulled from a coffin I buried myself alive in. Because I deserved it.
