The initial meeting between Emily and Gavin centers around her helping his son, and the tenderness she shows toward Ben is honestly adorable. It immediately gives you a sense of who she is, and you can see why Gavin would be drawn to her. At the same time, Gavin being so upfront about wanting a one-night stand was actually admirable. Emily knew exactly what she was walking into, and there were no false expectations.
And honestly… there’s just something about a man saying “this is only once” and then completely failing at sticking to that. Gavin thinks he can treat this like any other situation, but Emily is different, and you can feel that shift happen pretty quickly. The chemistry between them is undeniable, and once they’re together, it’s hard for either of them to ignore it.
At the beginning, they exist in this little bubble. It’s just the two of them, no outside influence, no Ben, no friends, just time to get to know each other and enjoy what they have. But when things start shifting from casual to something more, Gavin going all in is everything. And through it all, the way he prioritizes Ben stands out. He is so protective of him, always putting him first, and it’s one of the best portrayals of a father I’ve seen in a story.
His grandma adds such a fun layer too. She absolutely knows what’s going on from the start, just based on her conversations with each of them, and quietly nudges things along in the background. It’s that perfect kind of meddling where you’re rooting for her, even if they don’t realize what she’s doing.
I listened to the audiobook, and it was so well done. Savannah does an excellent job portraying Emily; her softness and innocence felt exactly right for her character and made the story even more enjoyable. Teddy, as Gavin, was just as strong and really brought his character and lifestyle to life. It was so engaging that I ended up devouring the whole thing in one sitting because I didn’t want to stop. I received this as an ARC and am leaving this honest review voluntarily.
I'm not going to visually survive this.
