What pulled me into this book from the very beginning was the role reversal: Nina is the obsessive, possessive one, and she uses her brother’s power to take the man she loves, Roheen. With their influence, Nina forces Roheen into marriage and keeps him confined in their home, completely upending the usual dynamic in dark romance.

This story doesn’t take place over a few months or even a year. It spans nearly twenty years, and that long timeline is essential. If this book had been condensed, the depth of pain, trauma, and emotional unraveling each character goes through wouldn’t have hit nearly as hard.

From Roheen’s perspective, you experience the raw reality of his captivity. His emotions, his fear, his heartbreak, it all feels painfully real. What he endures is not for the faint of heart, but I couldn’t look away. From Nina’s side, you witness a woman who has her own twisted version of love. Roheen is her entire world, and she will go to extreme lengths for him, even when it destroys them both.

Roheen’s journey through hell and back is powerful. Watching him piece himself together and grow into something stronger, even after the trauma, made his redemption arc unforgettable. Nina has her own arc as well: she has lived her whole life protected and insulated by her family. When that protection fades, reality finally hits, and Roheen is the one who forces her to confront it.

I don’t condone what Nina and her brother did, and I don’t condone everything Roheen does either. His revenge isn’t clean; it’s messy and twisted. But following both of their journeys, the darkness, the consequences, the unraveling, the rebuilding, was absolutely fascinating. And in the end, oddly satisfying.

Her touch, familiar, haunting, sent shivers down my spine.
