This book was much lighter than most of my usual reads and ended up being such a nice change of pace. The first chapter was surprisingly dark, but then the story did a complete 180 and became very happy and light, which I really enjoyed. I also loved that the characters had typical jobs, something very different from most of the books I read. It made the love story feel more realistic and grounded.
Once everyone started making comments about Eoin, Hailey really should have realized he had feelings for her. I genuinely don’t know how she didn’t see it sooner. I admired how hard Hailey worked to take care of herself throughout the book, but I also loved that she allowed Eoin to take care of her too. It never made her seem weaker, and she knew she could return that care in her own way.
From the very beginning, Eoin could read her so well and always knew when she was lying. Somehow, even over the phone, he could tell. Instead of pushing him away, it drew him closer. He focused on her, made sure she was safe, and always made her feel cared for. Their little dates were absolutely adorable, and the constant texting and phone calls really felt like the start of a genuine relationship.
His family was also such a highlight. They were incredibly close, and the way they inserted themselves into everything made me laugh. You could feel Eoin’s annoyance, but he was never unkind or angry. He simply groaned while secretly loving that they were always there.
Toward the end, elements from the first chapter came back into play and there were twists I truly was not expecting. All in all, this was a fast-paced, fun read. The story was light, beautiful, and centered on happiness, protection, and finding comfort in the right person. I received an ARC of this book and am leaving this honest review voluntarily.
I’ve never experienced this before. The insatiable desire to spend time with another person as much as possible.
