I’ve read a lot of books this year, but this one has shot straight into my top favorites. I didn’t want to put it down for a second, and every time I was interrupted, I genuinely wanted to scream.

Lila had a rough past, and all she wants is a life better than the one she came from. Her anxiety hits at the worst moments, but that’s exactly what makes her feel so real and relatable. And Aster? She’s the best kind of best friend: protective, grounding, and still pushing Lila outside her comfort zone when she needs it most. Their friendship is such a highlight of the book.

The story kicks off with Lila and Aster attending a Halloween party where they encounter four mysterious masked men: Batman, Red Mask, the Plague Doctor, and the Phantom. As the book unfolds, we meet Beck, Kage, Clint, and Leon, and Lila slowly begins to see how all the pieces move and connect. Watching it come together is so satisfying.

Following Lila through such a wide range of emotions and situations made the book fly by. Every time I thought I had the mystery figured out, the next chapter made me second-guess everything. By the end, I was completely blown away. I devoured this story, and it still left me wanting more.

There is so much I want to say, but anything more would dip into spoilers, and this is a story that deserves to unfold page by page. This book gave me so many feelings, confusion, excitement, heartbreak, fear, joy, and it’s absolutely one that’s going to live in my mind for a long time.

Princess, you are my undoing.
