Mara lives her life by her father’s rules. As the daughter of a political candidate, she is expected to maintain a perfect public image and follow a carefully planned path that was never truly hers.

Meeting the OCK leaders completely shifts her world. Watching Mara slowly realize that there is more to life than what she has been allowed to see felt like her true awakening. She begins to question everything she was raised to believe.

Dredyn’s obsession with her was intense, but his anger was a real struggle for me. Even though he clearly wanted her, the way he expressed it often came off as cruel.

Jasper, on the other hand, completely stole my heart. He has known Mara the longest, and their connection felt genuine and incredibly sweet.

Talon fell somewhere in the middle for me. At times, I understood him and appreciated what he brought to the group, but other moments had me frustrated.

When Mara finally stood up for herself, it felt like the light breaking through the clouds even though the way she did it had me completely shook. Watching the men literally fight for her and teach her things she had never been allowed to experience was such a powerful display of their dynamic as a group.

Mara’s growth throughout the story was compelling, and the ending left me desperate for the next book. I can’t wait to see what happens next with Mara and the boys. I received this book as an ARC and am leaving this honest review voluntarily.

Ours. I think the word tastes like iron and fire.
