The short description of this book truly does not do it justice. There is so much more layered beneath the surface than the blurb suggests.

The story opens by immersing us in Emma’s world, diving into the details of who she is and how she exists in it. When she attends a party and encounters the boy everyone is whispering about, it feels small at first—but that moment quietly begins to shift the entire direction of her life.

In the beginning, I wasn’t entirely sure why certain details were emphasized, but I tucked them away mentally. By the time the Fox Hunt arrived, I already sensed something major was coming. That turning point completely altered the tone of the book.

Emma in the first half is intelligent but reserved, existing slightly in the background. After the Hunt, though, she transforms. She becomes cunning, sharp, and deliberate. She knows exactly what to say and how to say it. She refuses to be overlooked or taken advantage of again, and that shift in confidence was powerful to witness. It isn’t a sudden, unrealistic change, it feels earned, and it carries her through the rest of the story.

The people she meets along the way are another highlight. She doesn’t just find friends; she finds family. Watching her loneliness slowly fade as she builds genuine connections was unexpectedly heartwarming and added emotional depth to the narrative.

The final portion of the book was wild. Unexpected. Bold. I was invested throughout, but the ending elevated everything. Threads that had been quietly woven earlier suddenly came together, and I finished in complete awe of how it all connected.

I listened to the audiobook, and Maddy absolutely enhanced the experience. Her voice was effortless to listen to, and I found myself tuning out the rest of the world because she was that engaging. I’m so glad I chose the audiobook, because her performance added an extra layer to an already compelling story. I received this as an ALC and am leaving this honest review voluntarily.

She would not trade the magic in her limbs or the warmth of her sisters for anything.
