Recently, I stumbled upon an intriguing painting technique online that involved using painter's tape to create a criss-cross pattern on a canvas. The idea immediately caught my attention, and I knew I had to try it out. It seemed like the perfect opportunity to give new life to a canvas I had previously worked on but wasn't quite happy with.
I began my project by strategically placing one set of painter's tape across the canvas. For my color palette, I chose a range of harmonious hues - light green, green, teal, and blue. Carefully, I painted along the lines of the tape, watching as the colors brought the pattern to life. After the paint dried, I removed the tape, revealing nice crisp lines on the canvas. The next step was to turn the canvas 90 degrees and repeat the process. This time, I used green, teal, and blue, creating a second layer of intersecting lines.
To complete the look, I filled in the empty spaces with plum and lilac colors. These warm tones added a lovely contrast to the cooler shades and gave the painting an added depth and richness.
Initially, I attempted to outline the colored sections with a Sharpie, hoping to add definition to the design. However, this proved to be unsuccessful as the marker didn't work well on the painted surface. Undeterred, I switched to a different marker, but I still faced challenges. I had envisioned adding intricate lines and patterns, akin to Zentangle art, but nothing seemed to work on the canvas.
Despite these challenges, I found myself truly happy with the final result. The mix of colors created a vibrant and dynamic effect, and the criss-cross pattern gave the painting a sense of movement and energy. The canvas, once a reminder of a failed attempt, was now a testament to creativity and the beauty of transformation.
